β-Dystrobrevin (DTNB)

β-Dystrobrevin (DTNB) is a crucial component of the dystrophin-associated protein complex, vital for preserving muscle integrity. Defects in the dystrophin glycoprotein complex (DGC) are associated with major muscular dystrophies, as the DGC serves both as a structural unit and as a scaffold for signaling molecules at the sarcolemma. Research into DTNB's interactions with other proteins and its role in muscle diseases is facilitated by studying its glycopeptides, which are important for developing targeted treatments and vaccines for muscular dystrophies. Additionally, DTNB glycopeptides could act as biomarkers for diagnosing and monitoring muscle disorders, supporting the development and evaluation of treatment strategies. Notably, β-Dystrobrevin (DTNB) is also found in neurons within the cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum, suggesting its potential involvement in various neuronal pathways in the brain.
