The disaccharide glycoamino acid structure, GlcNAcβ1-2Man-Ser/Thr, has been identified in each of the glycan core structures (M1, M2 and M3) of α-dystroglycan (α-DG), a cell membrane protein that binds to the extracellular matrix in a variety of mammalian tissues.
