One of four major classes of biological molecules that include nucleic acids, proteins and lipids, carbohydrates are complex biological recognition elements that mediate a host of key biological events including adhesion, cellular targeting, immune system function, protein transport, stabilization and half-life. Sussex Research is developing synthesis technologies that unlock the commercial and therapeutic potential of carbohydrate molecules. The company addresses applications in 4 key areas:
Carbohydrate-Based Molecules - Development of proprietary synthesis and manufacturing strategies for carbohydrate-based molecules used in drug discovery & development. We use chemical, chemoenzymatic and soluble polymer strategies to access oligosaccharides including small molecule glycosylaminoglycans and glycoconjugates such as glycosylated amino acids and lipids.
Glycotherapeutic Enhancement & Delivery - Enhancement of the properties of carbohydrate-based drugs (glycotherapeutics) via proprietary PEGylated Glycoside technology.
Therapeutic Molecule Enhancement - A novel proprietary technology for enhancement of cellular targeting, transport, stabilization and half-life of therapeutic molecules such as small molecules, peptides, proteins and oligonucleotides via proprietary glycoconjugation and PEGylation technologies.
Carbohydrate Vaccine Development - A novel proprietary technology for production of synthetic glycoconjugate vaccines.
