Brady Clark, Ph.D., CEO, is founder of Sussex Research. Formerly a research officer of the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada (1988-1996) where he directed successful international collaborations on projects relating to mechanistic organic chemistry with academic, government and pharmaceutical researchers based in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Dr. Clark has extensive publications in major peer-reviewed international journals. Dr. Clark received a doctorate in chemistry from McMaster University in 1988. Fengyang Yan, Ph.D., oversees development of synthetic methodologies designed for accessing carbohydrate-based molecules using classic solution phase chemistry and chemoenzymatic synthesis. He also leads Sussex' program for development of synthetic strategies to glycosyl amino acids for use in Solid and Solution Phase Peptide Synthesis. Prior to joining Sussex in 2003, Dr. Yan was a researcher at NRC in the area of Iterative Syntheses of Oligosaccharides on Soluble Polymeric (PEG) Supports and Chemoenzymatic Synthesis of Oligosaccharides for use in carbohydrate-based vaccine research. Dr. Yan received a doctorate in chemistry in 1996 from Okayama University (Japan). Dennis Whitfield, Ph.D., Scientific Advisor, is a Senior Research Officer with the Eukaryotic Glycobiology Group at NRC where his group is developing synthetic methodologies for advancing NRC's glycotherapeutics program. Focus is on Glycosylation (synthesis and mechanistic theory), heparin fragments synthesis and biophysical studies, soluble polymers (applied to synthesis of oligosaccharides) and chemoenzymatic synthesis. Dr. Whitfield has extensive publications as well as patents and applications on his scientific work and is inventor of the Sussex Research PEGylated Glycoside technology. Prior to joining NRC, Dr. Whitfield held research positions at the University of Toronto, the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto) and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research (Toronto). Dr. Whitfield received a doctorate in chemistry from Victoria University in 1984.
